Sound Vat’s Polaris Prize 2012 Short List

After much deliberation, I’ve finally compiled my top ten list of Canadian albums from the Polaris Prize 2012 Long List. I listened to each album on the list in its entirety and took into consideration what resonated the most. The short list will be announced July 17th. In alphabetical order, here are my picks:

Rich Aucoin – We’re All Dying To Live
Cold Specks – I Predict A Graceful Expulsion
Mark Davis – Eliminate The Toxins
Feist – Metals
Grimes – Visions
Japandroids – Celebration Rock
Dan Mangan – Oh Fortune
Sandro Perri – Impossible Spaces
John K. Samson – Provincial
Bry Webb – Provider
(The Wooden Sky – Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Sun [Yes, I'm still bitter.])

  1. I definitely agree with the inclusion of Cold Specks, Grimes, Feist, Dan Mangan, Rich Aucoin, Japandroids and Sandro Perri. I think there’s going to be one hip-hop spot as per usual, so probably Cadence Weapon will appear on the list, and I’m guessing Coeur de Pirate as well. I think Fucked Up is probably going to appear on the list again (even if they don’t win). There’s my shortlist.
