Obvious rules you should follow when submitting music

A recent outpouring of crap submission emails has led to this: our very own guide to submitting your music on the blog. You’d think it’d be straightforward and logical, but it sadly isn’t so. Abide to these ten rules and you’ll be set!

  1. Please no text speak. That means if you use “u” instead of “you”, I will not be “lol”ing
  2. Use spell check, or at least learn how to spell definitely. De, finite, ly.
  3. If there is a .gif in your submission, I will attempt to hunt you down and use medieval torture methods to make sure you never do it again.
  4. Bright pink text will not get my attention. On the contrary, it will make me hit the delete button faster than you can say “Get your pets spayed or neutered!”
  5. Insert links, dammit. Don’t make me Google you. I won’t.
  6. If you start emailing me more than twice to see what I thought of your music, I will tell you where to put your music…
  7. Sound Vat is Canadian. From Canada. Don’t make me tell you that I won’t be writing about your music unless you come from the land of maple syrup and no pennies as of today.
  8. If you used Comic Sans or Papyrus (or God forbid, both) you are a lost cause. Which reminds me, try and keep it to one font.
  9. Try not to use the email you made when you were ten to send serious music stuff. fluffybunny_999@hotmail.com does not exactly give off a professional vibe
  10. Say what you mean and mean what you say, but don’t take 15 paragraphs to say it. Be to the point but remain personal. It’s good to know there’s real passion on the other side of the wire.
